The current political and policy narrative is very much focused on the issue of growth…the UK’s economic productivity and what can be done to improve it. The Prime Minister and Chancellor are clear that growth is the number one mission of the government.

A collaborative approach to the BID industry...

It’s been two weeks since the final day of this year’s UKREiiF gathering in Leeds; during which the Prime Minister announced that a General Election will be held on 4 July, which is now, of course, only four weeks away. As such, it’s a good time to reflect on some of the issues that were being discussed and debated in Leeds, and to speculate as to how these will play out in the run up to election day.

What's next for BIDs...

It’s been an important two weeks for BIDs and those that work in our industry. Not only have we had the budget (the first from a Labour government for over 14 years) we have held a first and very positive meeting with Alex Norris MP - the de facto “Minister for BIDs - and his team, and we will be publishing the 2024 Annual Survey and Report on the BID industry very soon. Much of our collective activity came into focus at this year’s very successful British BIDs National Conference, held on 7 November in Euston.

An Autumn update...

As we say goodbye to summer, many in the BID world will be looking ahead to the Chancellor’s Autumn Statement, due on 30 October. The Government has been clear on what it believes is the extent of the financial challenges that the country faces, and most expect some tough decisions that will impact personal and family budgets, which will no doubt impact consumer attitudes and spending patterns.
